San Miguel de Salinas is a small town in the Vega Baja del Segura region, in the south of the province of Alicante, with about 7,000 residents. It lies at an altitude of about 75 m above sea level and is the highest-lying town in the region, about 10 km from Torrevieja and the beaches.
Location and life here
The town lies between Torrevieja and Murcia, by the A-7 and AP-7 motorways, on the edge of the El Llano plain with its salt lakes. The area is calm and rural, yet you reach the beaches of Torrevieja and Orihuela Costa in about 10–15 minutes. Summers are hot and dry, and winters mild.
What to see
The centre of the town is formed by the Plaza de la Libertad square with a church, around which cafés and local life gather. The area also has natural assets: gullies and streams running down to the plain, the nearby Sierra Escalona hills and the salt flats to the south. The municipality also has developments with houses and apartments, including Blue Lagoon.
