Los Alcázares – guide for property buyers on the Costa Cálida

Los Alcázares is a seaside town in the Region of Murcia, located on the shallow, warm Mar Menor lagoon. About 19,500 people live here permanently, and in summer the number of residents exceeds 100,000.

Location and life here

The Mar Menor is the largest salt-water lagoon in Europe – it covers about 170 km² and has about 70 km of shoreline, its water is no deeper than about 7 m and is sometimes a few degrees warmer than the Mediterranean. This makes Los Alcázares well suited to family holidays and water sports, and the climate is mild all year round. There are more than 30 golf courses within an hour’s drive, including La Manga Club.

What to see

Along the shore of the lagoon runs a promenade with beaches (including Playa del Espejo and Los Narejos), shops, bars and restaurants, and yachts moor in the harbour. The calendar includes a medieval market in March and the international La Huerta folklore festival at the end of August. The history of settlement goes back to Roman times, and the municipality has been independent since 1983.
