San Fulgencio – guide for property buyers on the Costa Blanca
San Fulgencio is a municipality in the Vega Baja del Segura region, in the south of the province of Alicante, a few kilometres from the beaches of Guardamar del Segura. It has about 8,000 residents, the vast majority of whom come from outside Spain – as many as 77% according to the 2011 census – and English is the most commonly used language here.
Location and life here
San Fulgencio lies on flat terrain, a few kilometres from the sea, between Guardamar del Segura, Elche and Rojales. The municipality includes, among others, the La Marina and El Oasis developments, so daily life here largely revolves around modern developments with pools, shops and restaurants rather than a traditional centre. You reach the beaches and large shopping centres by car in about 10–15 minutes, and Alicante-Elche airport is about half an hour’s drive away.
What to see
The old part of the village centres on the parish church of St Fulgentius with its characteristic bell tower and the town hall (Casa Consistorial). Many people come here mainly for the nearby Guardamar beaches, the dune park and the golf courses in the area, as well as the transport links to Alicante and Torrevieja.
